Accompanying someone does not mean walking ahead of them to show the way. It means walking close enough for them to discover that they are capable of finding their own.
”
Departure does not mark the end of the mission for those who sent the ambassador. Quite the opposite.
Over several months, the young person will discover a new country, a new culture, a new way of life and, at times, new difficulties.
Accompanying them does not mean solving their problems for them. It means remaining present, helping them to reflect, restoring their confidence when necessary and allowing them to gradually become the author of their own answers.
This is how independence is built.
The ambassador knows that they are never alone.
Regular contact with their club, their family and the OSE Country maintains a relationship of trust.
Not every minor discomfort needs to become a problem to be solved. Discovering a new country also means learning to seek solutions, to ask for help and to gain confidence. Accompaniment encourages this progression.
The OSE team remains available.
It intervenes quickly whenever the young person's safety, health or personal wellbeing requires it.
Independence never means being left to fend for oneself.
During their stay, the ambassador continues the mission entrusted by their club. They regularly share their discoveries, their achievements, their questions and the lessons they draw from their experience. In doing so, they help enrich OSE's living library.
Over the months, everyone helps the ambassador become aware of the path they have travelled. The return is not an ending.
It is the natural continuation of their commitment.
Accompanying someone does not mean walking ahead of them to show the way. It means walking close enough for them to discover that they are capable of finding their own.
