CAO 2 - WELCOMING AN AMBASSADOR

MAKING THE ADVENTURE BEAR FRUIT

“

An encounter is truly successful when its fruits continue to grow long after we have gone.

”

STARTING QUESTION

How can we ensure that the ambassador's departure does not mark the end of the adventure, but the beginning of new relationships, new projects and an ever more united community?

WHY THIS SHEET?

An ambassador's return marks the end of a stay. It does not mark the end of the adventure.

Over several months, trust has been built. Habits have formed. Memories have been made.

But above all, bonds have been woven:

  • between a young person and their host family;
  • between two families;
  • between two clubs;
  • between coaches;
  • between officials;
  • between schools;
  • sometimes even between several OSE Countries.

These bonds are an exchange's greatest treasure. They deserve to be nurtured, developed and passed on.

For true OSE success is not measured solely by the happiness of an encounter. It is also measured by the quality of the human relationships it has helped to create.

THE FIVE KEYS TO MAKING THE ADVENTURE BEAR FRUIT

1
Looking back together at the journey travelled

Before departure, take the time to look back at the journey travelled.

  • the discoveries;
  • the joys;
  • the difficulties overcome;
  • the progress made;
  • the people met.

Looking back over the adventure helps everyone realise how much they have grown.

2
Celebrating the end of a stage

Life's great moments deserve to be marked.

  • a shared meal;
  • a photograph;
  • a few words;
  • a testimonial;
  • a small ceremony.

These simple gestures give depth to memories and allow everyone to leave with a heart full of gratitude.

3
Maintaining personal bonds

An OSE adventure does not stop at the airport.

  • host family;
  • parents;
  • brothers and sisters;
  • teammates;
  • friends;
  • coaches.

All of them can continue to stay in touch.

A relationship maintained simply often becomes a lasting friendship.

4
Keeping alive the bonds formed around the ambassador

An ambassador leaves, but what they have inspired lives on. Their presence brings together people who did not previously know one another.

  • two families discover another way of life;
  • two clubs share their experiences;
  • educators share their practices;
  • officials devise joint projects.

Sometimes, a single exchange becomes the starting point for a twinning arrangement, a partnership or a new OSE adventure.

The ambassador thus becomes a true weaver of bonds.

5
Growing the family

Every ambassador leaves. But the community grows.

Every host family joins a story larger than itself. Every club enriches its network of relationships. Every OSE Country brings its culture, its experience and its own way of living the Olympic spirit.

Gradually, these bonds give rise to a true international sporting family, diverse in its cultures and united by the relationships it chooses to keep alive.

Thus, exchange after exchange, year after year, OSE helps to build a truly global sporting community. A community founded not on speeches, but on encounters, shared trust and lasting friendships.

Today, across the planet, hundreds of thousands of athletes are already helping, each in their own way, to grow human fraternity.

If tomorrow they become fully aware of this collective strength, they could become one of the greatest forces for fraternity the world has ever known.

That is, humbly, OSE's ambition.

AN AMBASSADOR SOWS FAR MORE THAN THEY REALISE

An ambassador often thinks they have come to have an experience. In reality, they leave friendships behind.

They bring families closer together. They unite clubs. They inspire new projects. They sometimes open paths that no one had imagined.

The finest fruits of an exchange are often those that continue to grow long after it has ended.

MISTAKES TO AVOID

  • Treating departure as the end of the adventure.
  • Limiting the exchange to the relationship with the young person alone.
  • Forgetting to thank the people who contributed to its success.
  • Letting the bonds formed during the stay fade away.
  • Neglecting the opportunities for cooperation born of this encounter.

GOOD PRACTICES

  • Organising a time for reflection and celebration.
  • Thanking everyone involved.
  • Exchanging contact details for families, clubs and those in charge.
  • Encouraging reciprocal visits and joint projects.
  • Sharing this experience with the OSE community.
  • Continuing to welcome, support and pass on what has been learnt.

THE CHECKLIST

At the end of the exchange…
The ambassador leaves having grown through their experience.
The families wish to stay in touch.
The clubs have established a lasting relationship.
The main people involved have been thanked.
The bonds formed have been identified and valued.
Prospects exist for new exchanges or new projects.
Everyone now feels part of a wider community.
The bonds formed during this exchange live on and open the way to new encounters or new projects.
THE FOUNDER'S EYE

When women and men share deeply lived experiences that give meaning to their lives, they do not simply create bonds. They lay the foundations of a shared Humanity.

A sheet is not meant to be read. It is meant to be lived. Take the time to talk it over before deciding.
