PREPARING THOSE AROUND THEM

Everyone has a role; everyone builds the adventure.
“

An ambassador never sets out alone. They are carried forward by the love and trust of those around them.

”
Young OSE ambassador waving to their family and coach before departing on a sports exchange - a shared mission, an adventure together

Why is this stage important?

When an ambassador leaves, they are not the only one living an adventure. Their family adjusts its habits. Their club sees one of its members depart. Their school adapts their course of study. The OSE Country accompanies a mission that it will continue to follow for several months.

Preparing those around them means enabling everyone to understand their role before, during and after the stay.

The more clearly everyone understands their responsibility, the more calmly the ambassador can set out and fully live their adventure.

What needs to be done?

1
PREPARING THE FAMILY

The family supports their child without trying to live the adventure in their place. They understand that being away is part of their learning and contributes to building their independence.
They remain a source of support, without becoming a source of dependency.

2
PREPARING THE CLUB

The club is not simply losing a member.
It entrusts one of its ambassadors with a mission.
Throughout the stay, it remains engaged, takes an interest in their progress and is already preparing for their return so that the experience benefits the whole sporting community.

3
PREPARING THE SCHOOL

The school knows the objectives of the stay.
Wherever possible, it facilitates continuity in the pupil's education.
It recognises that this exchange constitutes a genuine educational experience.

4
ORGANISING COMMUNICATION

Before departure, everyone knows how to stay in touch with the ambassador. Contact is regular but respects their independence. It allows for accompanying without controlling, and supporting without directing.

5
PREPARING FOR THE RETURN

The return begins even before departure. The family, the club, the school and the OSE Country are already considering how to welcome the ambassador back and make the most of their experience.
The ambassador themselves prepares to share what they have lived through, to support future ambassadors and to keep the OSE spirit alive through their example.

In this way, the adventure does not end with the return.
It enters a new stage: that of passing it on.

MISTAKES TO AVOID

  • Wanting to protect the young person excessively.
  • Making too many demands on them during the stay.
  • Confusing presence with control.
  • Neglecting preparation for the return.
  • Treating the departure as a mere interlude in the life of the club.

GOOD PRACTICES

  • Clearly explaining everyone's role.
  • Establishing a relationship of trust.
  • Respecting the young person's pace of independence.
  • Preparing for the return from the very start of the exchange.
  • Making the whole community a participant in the adventure.

THE FOUNDER'S EYE

The secret of all existential education lies in strengthening the bond that connects a person to themselves.

It is on this bond that the joy of living and of being happy on this earth is gradually built. OSE helps each person discover this bond and affirm it.
