OSE a minima: the inner journey
The ambassador's true journey is not simply about changing country.
It consists in progressively discovering who they are, what they can become, and what contribution they wish to make to others throughout their life.
An international exchange is far more than a stay abroad. It is a rite of passage.
Like any rite of passage, it comprises three stages:
OSE does not create this transformation. The journey makes it possible.
OSE, however, helps the ambassador to understand what they are experiencing, to make sense of it, and to turn this experience into the starting point of a path that may accompany them throughout their life.
Like a coin, the OSE adventure has two faces and an edge. None can be separated from the other two. Together, they form a single, unified adventure.
Face A
Face B
The edge
What I discover outside.
What I discover within myself.
What I choose to make of this adventure.
This is the visible part of the adventure. The young person discovers:
This discovery nurtures their curiosity and broadens their outlook on the world.
As the young person discovers a new country, they also discover themselves.
They gradually become aware of:
Little by little, they become more fully the author and actor of their own life.
But this discovery goes further. In becoming an ambassador, they gradually understand that a responsibility has been entrusted to them. They represent:
Olympism
They then make an essential discovery:
The more their recognition grows, the more their personal responsibility grows.
They discover that the trust placed in them calls for a contribution in return. This experience is often a first, concrete encounter with what OSE calls the maturity of existence.
No adventure transforms anyone on its own.
Two young people may live through exactly the same experience and draw very different lessons from it.
What makes the difference is their personal decision. The decision:
This freedom belongs entirely to the ambassador. OSE may propose. It can never decide on their behalf.
Together, these three open a single path: that of the gradual discovery of oneself, the maturity of existence, and personal responsibility.
The role of Olympism ambassador is the first step on this path. It is not its final destination.
The ambassador shares their experience.
They enrich their club.
They support future ambassadors.
They contribute to the development of their OSE Country.
They freely continue on their own path. Perhaps in sport. Perhaps in an entirely different field.
OSE places its trust in young people. It does not ask them to follow a path already mapped out. It offers them a first great adventure and gives them the means to freely build their own.
What matters is not that they remain an Olympism ambassador for life.
What matters is that they retain a taste for growth, for taking on increasing responsibilities, and for contributing, in their own way, to the common good.
"The greatest journey is not the one that takes us to a different country. It is the one that teaches us to become fully ourselves, so that we may better contribute to others."
