THE OSE ADVENTURE BOOKLETS Booklet No. 3  •  Sending an Ambassador
SHEET 5

MAKING THE RETURN A NEW BEGINNING

Passing On – Contributing – Building Together
“

An ambassador never returns unchanged. They return to share what they have received and to help those who will follow them grow.

”
Returning OSE ambassador sharing their exchange experience with a young person from their community - shared experience, learning, Olympic values, human adventure

Why Is This Stage Important?

The return marks the end of the stay, but it does not mark the end of the mission.

Quite the opposite.

Over several months, the ambassador has grown, discovered another culture, developed new skills and carried OSE's values.

Everything they have received is now a wealth of experience they can share.

An OSE ambassador does not return with memories alone. They return with an experience that can help other young people, strengthen their club and help the whole community grow.

What Should Be Done?

1
LOOKING BACK ON THEIR JOURNEY

Before recounting their stay, the ambassador takes the time to understand what they have experienced. What were the most rewarding discoveries? What difficulties helped them grow? What have they learned about others... and about themselves?

2
SHARING THEIR EXPERIENCE

An experience becomes fruitful once it is shared. The ambassador meets with their club, their OSE Country, future candidates and, whenever possible, their school.
They recount their adventure with simplicity, sincerity and humility.

3
ENRICHING OSE'S LIVING LIBRARY

The return is not limited to a personal account. The ambassador brings new knowledge about their host country, its culture, its sport, its school and the good practices they have discovered.
In doing so, they help enrich OSE's collective memory.

4
CONTINUING THEIR MISSION

Once home, the ambassador remains an ambassador. They support new cohorts, answer questions from future candidates and continue to bring the OSE spirit to life through their conduct.
Their commitment changes shape, but it does not end.

5
BECOMING A BUILDER

The experience received naturally calls for a contribution in return. The more the ambassador is recognised for what they have lived through, the greater their responsibility to help build a more fraternal community by already allowing others to benefit from their experience.
In this way, each generation prepares the next.

MISTAKES TO AVOID

  • Seeing the return as the end of the project.
  • Keeping their experience to themselves.
  • Reducing the stay to a few anecdotes.
  • Forgetting the mission entrusted by their club.
  • Believing that only the organisers develop OSE.

GOOD PRACTICES

  • Taking the time to look back on their experience.
  • Speaking with authenticity.
  • Also sharing the difficulties encountered.
  • Supporting future ambassadors.
  • Continuing to bring the OSE spirit to life.
