ALTIS

OSE's reason for being

The horizon that unites us

WHY?

  • Since the dawn of time, women and men have sought to build a more fraternal Humanity.
  • To contribute to this, Pierre de Coubertin proposed an original path: Olympism.
  • Olympism is not merely a sporting practice. It is a philosophy of life that places sport at the service of the education of the individual, mutual respect, encounters between cultures and the building of peace.
  • Through this vision, Pierre de Coubertin called on women and men to build what he named the Altis.
  • The African philosophy of Ubuntu expresses it thus: "I am because we are."
  • Rotary International serves it through its ideal of service.
  • Teilhard de Chardin saw Humanity growing towards ever greater unity.
  • These approaches do not oppose one another. Each, with its own history and language, sheds light on one and the same horizon: that of an ever more fraternal Humanity.
  • OSE does not claim allegiance to any particular philosophy.
  • It chooses to be a place of convergence where the greatest humanist traditions meet, complement and enrich one another.

WHY TRAIN AMBASSADORS OF OLYMPISM?

OSE has chosen a simple path:

To help build an ever more fraternal Humanity by training ambassadors of Olympism.

Every young person hosted or sent abroad discovers another culture, represents their country, learns to better understand others and to better understand themselves.

Through them, it is not just two clubs or two families that meet.

It is Humanity that grows.

OSE illustration — the globe surrounded by ambassadors

For a French rugby player, the Bouclier de Brennus is present even before the championship begins. It draws every club, every coach and every player. It shapes projects, training, choices and sacrifices.

For an athlete preparing for the Olympic Games, the gold medal plays the same role. Long before the competition, it gives direction, density and intensity to every training session, to their entire preparation and, more broadly, to their whole existence.

In the same way, ALTIS gives direction, density and intensity to OSE World, to every OSE Country, to the clubs, the families, the ambassadors and to all the partners who freely choose to contribute, through Olympism, to building an ever more fraternal Humanity.

ALTIS is not the end of the road. It is already present in every step that leads towards it.

A shared endeavour

OSE World, OSE Countries, the clubs, the families and the ambassadors are not pursuing different goals. They are taking part in one and the same endeavour.

Every successful exchange, every encounter, every friendship, every young person who grows strengthens trust between people, clubs, cultures and peoples.

So, training an ambassador of Olympism is not simply about preparing a young person for an international trip.

It is contributing, concretely, to building an ever more fraternal Humanity.
